Antique HEAVY BARREL Full Stock RIFLE w Peep Sight
Circa 1850s Percussion Long Rifle with a Golcher Lock
Here we present an antique Heavy Barrel Full Stock Percussion Rifle with a Golcher Lock, made circa the 1850s. This long arm features a long, heavy, octagonal barrel with a rifled bore in .56 caliber. The stock has a full-length fore end that goes all the way to the muzzle. Double set triggers and peep sights round out the package. This is the sort of rifle that would have been used to shoot relatively long distances at large game, think buffalo and elk, before large bore metallic cartridges were in prolific use. It would have also been just the thing for Civil War sharpshooters to pick off the enemy at range. The rear peep has an interesting insert made of horn.
The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are clear and legible. The stock is in good shape. The bore is clear with good rifling. The action is strong.
