Description:
This is a very nice all-original Remington UMC Model 51 pistol in .32 ACP caliber (called Series of 1921), much scarcer than the .380 ACP model.  The Model 51 was first introduced to the commerical market in 1918, with full-on production ramped up in 1919.  It was in production until 1927, with production numbers declining each year after 1919.  Total production of the Model 51 was 64,796 pistols thru 1927, with 54,518 made in .380 ACP and 10,278 in .32 ACP.  The .32 caliber Model 51 wasn't introduced until 1921, and it was originally intended for the European market where .380 ACP ammunition was much scarcer than .32 ACP.  The Remington UMC Model 51 quickly earned a reputation for being an extremely well-made pistol that was reliable and accurate with excellent ergonomics.  The semi-automatic Model 51 uses a unique delayed-blowback system of operation whereupon firing the breech remains locked until the bullet has left the barrel.  This allowed for a lighter weight slide but made the construction of the pistol more complex by adding a seperate breech block mechanism in addition to the normal slide and frame components.  The fit and finish of the Model 51 is second to none.  These are very high quality pistols, and were made by the finest gunsmiths that Remington had with the finest steel and materials available to them during production.  The amount of time spent constructing the parts and perfectly hand-fitting each pistol was ultimately the gun's downfall, it was too expensive to make and still turn a profit.  The Remington Model 51 is a very collectible pistol today, and remains one of the finest pocket/self-defense pistols ever designed.  This particular pistol is serial number PA 63046 and was manufactured in 1923.  It remains in all-original condition and 100% functional.  The original factory blue finish still looks great overall, showing only some minor spots of wear and some minor spots where surface rust has been previously cleaned.  As you can see from the pictures, despite these deductions this Remington has a great clean look to it overall.  The bore in this Model 51 is excellent.  It is nice and bright with no pitting, erosion, or imperfections visible.  The rifling still shows sharp lands and grooves.  The original checkered black plastic grips are in excellent condition.  They show no wear to speak of and are free from any cracks, chips, or repairs.  All of the controls on this Model 51 are in 100% perfect working order.  The action is smooth and locks up perfectly.  The grips safety, thumb safety, and magazine safety are all functioning as they were designed to.  We have no doubt that this .32 ACP Remington Model 51 would function just as well today as it did when it left the factory 96 years ago!   If you have been looking for one of these scarce Model 51's here is your chance to get a superb lightly used and all-original example.
