DESCRIPTION: Colt Lightning pump action rifle in caliber 38 WCF aka 38-40 with standard crescent rifle butt, full octagon barrel 26" long, full magazine tube, Marble's No. 5 front sight and correct Colt flat top rear sight with later Winchester thumb print elevator, serial # 78643, manufactured in 1895 and just out of a local collection.
CONDITION: Overall metal is gray and oxidizing patina with traces of darker plum in the protected areas. Original walnut stocks are in good condition, showing typical nicks, dings and scratches; butt stock has one kill mark cut in bottom just behind lower tang and a slight chip loss at toe of butt plate. Fore are shows traces of original checkering outline, may have been cleaned and sanded or is just worn away. Original dust cover present and action works properly, including half cock safety. Bore is very good with pronounced, consistent rifling andn only light scattered black powder fouling that may clean better, about a 7 of 10. Have a competent gunsmith check it over before firing. Nice entry level collector, or great for a Cowboy Action Shooter.
