Bank Money Order, Personal check Description: Have just uploaded a picture of Chevalier's logo on a medical pliers see final photo .....Trades considered. What do you have? Would consider selling Chevalier knife only....This is a superb 1850's Spear Point Bowie knife made by J.D. Chevlier New York with leather sheath in a fine walnut presentation case. Included with the custom knife is an early nickel plated revolver marked Blue Jacket # 2 No serial number that I can find. This set was probably put together as a gift post civil war, the revolver having a 1871 patent date. It is my understanding J. Chevalier only made knives during a 10 year window, consentrated most of his time on his surgical instrument business. Many of these surgical instruments were used during the Civil War. The Bowie is fine quality with a nice beefy feel a solid guard and Silver and Gilt/Gold dressed fancy grip. The pommel is outstanding. see pics. The Bowie measures 12 + inches overall with a 7 inch blade. No issues, rich patina, appears to never have been sharpened or modified. Has the J.D. Chevalier N. Y. makers mark stamped near the guard. Everything fits like a glove and it is obvious the case was made for this fine set. If you have listings on Guns International and want to do some trading on this item let me know so I can take a look at your listings. . Footnote: John Chevalier had a shop on Broadway, in New York, where he made Bowie knives and surgical instruments from 1835 to 1871. His quality was first rate; Surviving Chevalier Bowies are much sought-after by collectors. . All the work on the old knives was by hand, with an artisan’s craft skills that were learned during a long apprenticeship to master forgers, grinders and cutlers. His California bowies sell in the $10,000.00 to as much as $25,000.00 range for a knife only. The Blue Jacket #2 revolver is I believe 32-100 caliber and would rate easily as 90 + percent original condition or better. Walnut case with brass shield is in excellent condition and showing it age with no problems other than a missing key. I believe one could be found. Please call or email any questions. Don't miss this opportunity for a very special J.D. Chevalier 1850's Bowie knife. Please check my other listings in Bowie knives. SOLD |
