Description:
Very rare custom Bob Owen 20 gauge shotgun with two sets of barrels. Bob Owen was a famous custom gun maker especially for rifles and provider of stock blanks of highest quality. His offering for shotguns usually consisted of bespoke guns with the metal being purchased in Europe and then stocked and finished in his shop.
This is a 20 gauge two barrel set with the action being a boxlock ejector with side plates for the engraving. The engraving covers 100% of the receiver and is signed Engraver L. Smeets. The L stands for Leonard and he was a renown engraver in Europe working for the best firms. Some information on Mr. Smeets is available on the web.
It has a hidden third fastener.
The barrels are 27" and 25 5/8" long with raised tapered ribs. The barrels are without dings and the bores are perfect. Both sets of barrels are marked "Special Made for R. G. Owen Port Clinton, Ohio". Chokes are: 27" barrels L .026" R .016" and the 25 5/8" barrels are L .024" & R .016". Weight with 25 5/8" barrels is 5.6 lbs. and with 27" barrels is 5.9 lbs.
The stock is a straight grip, beavertail forend with heal and toe plates which are engraved. LOP is 14.5" and there is a gold initial oval. The wood is Owen's typical high grade European walnut.
