Description:

***Further reduced on 09/22  -- Just back from Vintager's and need to finance some unexpected purchases made there, so have significantly reduced price on this gun to help pay for those.  Here is your chance to acquire a nice British hammergun from England's "Purdey of the North" at a bargain price.***

Beautiful W.R. Pape 13 bore side-by-side hammer shotgun with 30" Damascus barrels. Full coverage engraving is crisp with fine detail. The action engraved W.R. Pape with acanthus scroll engraving, and having pheasants on left sideplate and partridges on right sideplate. Hammers engraved with dolphin heads and the trigger guard with a hammer shotgun and marked Trade Mark. The top lever stamped Pape's Patent in gold lettering. Water Table with black powder proof marks and marked W.R. Pape Patent with stamped double hammer guns. Rib engraved "W.R. Pape Newcastle upon Tyne, winner of the London gun trials in 1858, 1859 & 1866". Double triggers. Chamber length measures slightly over 2.5 in. with smooth forcing cones. Choked IC in right barrel; between Mod-IM in left barrel. Straight handed stock with engraved steel heel and toe plates. Great stock dimensions (14.25" LOP, 2.25" DAH, 1.25" DAC). Solid mechanical condition (action dead tight on face; both locks work properly with strong, smooth function; barrels chime well with min wall thickness of .035 at the muzzles increasing to .050 or slightly greater half way back towards the breeches; forearm snaps on perfectly). Both barrels do show evidence of black powder pitting (to be expected for a gun of its age) with left barrel pitted deeper than the right, but since it does not affect shootability or shot patterning I would leave the bores as is and enjoy casual shooting with this otherwise extraordinary, higher grade Pape. Serial No. 2784 dates gun to late 1877.
