Description: Serial #1070, .303 British, 20 1/2" barrel with a very good bore that has moderate freckling within the grooves. This is a 1902 dated carbine built to New Zealand specifications (adapted for use with the Pattern 1888 bayonet and lacking a barrel band) that has about 40-50% of the original blue that blends smoothly with a mostly dark, plum-brown patina mottled with spots of pewter gray along many of the exposed edges and surfaces. The bolt is armory re-numbered to the gun, and the receiver has a large stamped “DP" on top (Drill Purpose). The receiver has armorer stamped issue markings on the right side of the wrist socket: “N^Z / 1079 / 1903"; and there are crisp British military markings throughout including double arrow deaccession stamps on the receiver and barrel breech. The walnut stock and forend have numerous handling marks and minor blemishes throughout, including a large armorer-repaired crack on the left side running up from the wrist socket. The forend is no longer present, and the brass buttplate has a dark ochre tarnish. A short carbine magazine without chain is included, as is a khaki canvas sling. This is a fairly rare Lee-Enfield variant, and rates about very good overall.
