Description:

Antique WEBLEY-PRYSE Army & Navy CSL .450 Revolver

FINE & Early WP Officer’s Revolver from 1870s

Here we present an antique British Webley-Pryse Top-Break Revolver in .450, made circa 1878 in Birmingham, England. This would have been a cutting-edge military revolver, this one especially marketed to officers through the Army & Navy Co-Operative Society Limited, an exclusive club for officers and NCOs to get wholesale pricing on just about anything, including firearms. The top of the barrel is marked “ARMY & NAVY C.S.L.” This one features an early number as well. The barrel bears the “W&S” flying bullet logo and “WEBLEY’S/No 4/.45 CF”. This is a scarce and attractive revolver with a smooth action.

In the late-19th Century the British were in a hurry to solve the issue of reloading a revolver quickly and the obvious answer was to make the revolver opened just like a double barrel shotgun or rifle. There were a number of mechanisms created and one of the best of these was that of Charles Pryse which he patented on the 15th of November, 1876.

Though they were no longer being made, Webley-Pryse revolvers were sturdy and reliable arms which saw service in both the First and Second World Wars, sometimes being handed down from father to son and even to grandson.

The overall condition is fine. The original blue finish is 90% intact. The markings are clear and legible. The numbers match. The walnut checkered grips are in great shape. The bore is excellent, shiny with strong rifling. The action is excellent.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 5-1/2 inches.
