History of the Perazzi MX8 Mirage-S Sporting Classic
In the early 1990’s Perazzi made a limited run of upgraded sporting model O/U shotguns called the “Sporting Classic”. The upgraded features were: SCO grade wood, gold lettering, border engraving on all metal and additional scroll engraving on the action, forend iron, top lever, trigger guard and safety. They also came with a removable external selectable trigger, factory chokes and a tapered rib barrel.
Description of this gun
The first thing to note is that the gun has been fitted with replacement barrel set showing a BM date code mfg 1999. The barrels are 29.5” (750mm) with an 11mm cross filed rib, vented side ribs, white Bradley style front bead and a small mid rib bead. KG1.680 weight and 18.4mm bore. It has factory type 4 chokes in numbers (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) with the factory case and wrench.
The receiver, forend iron and trigger are in excellent condition with the bluing at 98-99% and all numbers are matching (79255). The trigger shows some wear from being taken in and out. It does not appear to have been carried or shot very much. The engraving is as described above.
The wood is also in excellent condition and appears to be the original finish. It is very nice SCO grade wood. A portion of the inside of the forend has been milled out. (see photos) The dimensions are 1-3/8” DAC, 1-3/4” DAH and 14-1/2” LOP to a 1” thick rubber pad.
The gun comes with a set of 29.5” Briley fitted ultralight sub-gauge tubes (20, 28, 410 gauges). Each gauge set has 6 chokes (2-Cyl, 2-Sk, 1-IC, 1-Mod) for a total of 18 chokes. It has the hammer and knock out tool and one Briley choke wrench for the 20ga tubes.
Everything fits into and will be delivered in a 30” NASCO case which has a few condition issues but is otherwise completely functional condition.
