Antique LONDON William MOORE FLOBERT Saloon Pistol
19th Century Indoor Range Gun
Here we present an antique Engraved Flobert Saloon Pistol by William Moore, made circa the 19th Century in London. In 1845 France, Louis Flobert fitted a projectile into a percussion cap for indoor target practice and began making pistols and rifles for the purpose as well. This grew into a genre of firearms that are commonly known as “Flobert”, “Gallery”, “Parlor” or “Saloon” guns. This pastime was popular with all walks of life, from the wealthy who had parlors to shoot in, to the lower classes who would take to the bars and saloons.
This pistol is nicely engraved at the breech of the barrel, the back of the hammer, the action tang, and the trigger guard. The barrel is a nice weight for offhand target shooting and fully-octagonal. The trigger guard features a rest for the middle finger. The top of the barrel is marked “W. Moore & Co. 43 Old Bond St. London”. This is a classy target pistol with a lot of condition.
The overall condition is fine. The blue finish is about 80% with clear markings. The stock is in great shape. The bore is smooth and clean. The action is excellent, strong and crisp. This is a fantastic example of a neat 19th Century pastime and shooting sport!
