Payment Types Accepted: Visa,Master Card, Discover,Check Description: This World War 2 production 1944-dated Lithgow SMLE No.1 Mk.III* rifle has to be one of the nicest in existence. Originally made for service with Australian Military in WW2, this rifle appears to have been never issued due to the excellent condition overall and lack of any finish wear. At some point likely after the war ended it was issued to a military school or rifle team, denoted by the painted green stripe around the buttstock. Again, it was either used very little in that capacity or not at all. As you can see from the pictures provided, this Lithgow is nearly spotless and beautiful. The original factory parkerized finish rates 98% plus, with just a few tiny handling/storage marks visible only under close inspection. All of the numbered parts are matching on this rifle including the bolt, receiver, stock, and nosecap. While this rifle is import marked, it is marked in tiny lettering that you really have to look for to see under the clip-slot bridge on the right side. This stamp does not detract from the looks of this rifle. The bore in this rifle is like-new and pristine with sharp lands and grooves still showing in the rifling, and no visible wear or imperfections whatsoever. The original Coachwood stock set on this SMLE is spectacular. All of the stock parts are perfectly matched in color and are in excellent condition, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or noticeable wear. All of the original stock markings and cartouches are crisp and clear including the "Slaz 44" for Slazenger Annex 1944, where the stock was made. All of the stock hardware is intact, in excellent condition, and tight to the wood, including the original brass buttplate. This Lithgow is in perfect working order and is just as clean on the inside as the exterior. The bolt works smoothly and precisely with no slop, and turns into battery perfectly tight with no wiggle. All of the rifle's controls work like they left the factory last week rather than 75 years ago. If you have been looking for a "collector grade" Australian Lithgow SMLE for your collection this 1944 would be an excellent choice. It would be extremely hard to upgrade from this all-matching and original beauty.
