MERWIN & HULBERT FIRST MODEL OPEN TOP .44 CAL. ARMY REVOLVER CIRCA 1877-78. All matching and original six shot, .44 Merwin & Hulbert cal. with 7 ½” barrel with Merwin & Hulbert 1877 patent dates on top and Hopkins & Allen Manufacturing Co. “NORWICH, CONN., U.S.A.” address on left side. All original and in good to very good condition with about 30-40% original nickel and balance and old dark patina. Lots of old dried storage grease. Should clean up much better. Rare factory ‘Red” checkered composition grips with diamond bordering at the bottom and diamond pearl inlays (chip on butt of left flat). Working order and excellent bore and chambers. Factory lanyard ring. Scarce earliest Merwin with “OPEN TOP” frame and thumb print (scooped) cylinder flutes. One of the hardest Frontier revolvers to find.
