The gun was inspected by Lt. David A. Lyle. There are two Ordnance Sub-inspections involved in its inspection. Mr. Lewis Drapeer inspected the frame, while John T. Cleveland inspected the remaining component parts of this revolver. Additionally the gun is market 18 and "6 Battery". The accompining letter of authentication from John A. Kopec lists the 18 as a rack number while the "6 Battery" is listed in New York's 1896 Adjutant-General's annual report as having 80 revolvers and 80 holsters under their supervision. Kopec's letter states the gun is totally authentic with two minor exceptions. The front sight had been replaced, and the hammer is a correct style replacement but lacks the nitre-blue finish. Mechanically the gun is perfect. There is also a Colt Letter showing the delivery to the U.S. Goverment inspector in January of 1877.
