Description: SOLD....Antique 1894 Winchester in rare caliber 25-35. A nice and above average antique 1894 Winchester. S/N 61982 and made in 1896 according to Madis.. Has the standard 26” octagon barrel. In the somewhat rare 25-35 caliber. The bore is very good. Strong rifling but is dark. No pitting or roughness but just not shiny. Might clean up better with some soaking and shooting. Still shoots as good as any of them will with either cast or jacketed bullets. NO rings or bulges. Mechanics are excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects just fine. This ole 94 still has quite a bit of original blue finish. The barrel has about 30% scattered and thinning blue. The mag tube has 30% deep blue where protected by the lower flats of the barrel. Both sides of the receiver have about 10% or so blue. Nice bright blue at the upper tang around the hammer. Lower tang also retains most all of it's deep bright blue. The balance of the metal is a smooth medium brown to gray patina. Some very minor scattered speaks pin pricks and surface crud on the barrel but never heavily cleaned on or messed with.. The hammer has nice vivid case colors on the sides and some on the rear. Hammer is also the early correct “widows peak” or heart shaped knurling.. The lever has some nice but slightly fading case colors on the sides towards the front as you can see in that photo. All the markings are excellent. Original Winchester Express front sight but the gold or ivory bead is missing. It is the Lymann marked and has PAT dates under the name but I can not make them out. Rear sight is a later Winchester replacement looks like the 3-C series used in the 1920's.. Rear tang sight looks like it has been on the gun for quite some time. It has the coarsely knurled post. I have not removed it to check the numbers on the bottom but I will do that for anyone who wants to know as long as I can get the screws out with no damage. The wood is good but the butt stock has an issue with a one inch square cut into it on the right side. Some initials on the left side JS. The initials are not deep at all but they are there ??? Who knows why these two issues are there, but someone had a reason for them. The butt stock has no other issues, cracks or splits. The wood fits tight and fairly even with the metal and just shows normal wear and handling dings and scratches. The forearm is much better with no issues. It fits very tight and mostly proud to the metal with just a little wear at the bottom rear where it meets the receiver from carry wear or riding over a saddle pommel. NO cracks or splits and just shows normal minor dings and scratches. Neither pieces of the wood is oil soaked or discolored and still has a nice look to it. Nothing looks like it was ever sanded on or messed with. The screw heads are sharp and not burred up from tinkering. Just a couple show some minor turning and all are very serviceable. All in all, this is a pretty nice and most honest ole 94 with some nice blue and a very good strong bore for the money. Special order sights. If you can live with the butt stock issues or have another stock to put on it, it would improve the gun. Just like all of these early Winchester 94's, they were built to stand up for decades of hard use and this one still has many more left in it. It still does what it was intended to do.. Put meat on the table.. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $50 insured shipping in the USA. SOLD Antique: Yes |
