Description:
Winchester Model 1894 Sporting Rifle "Special Order". The serial number of this example is 139XXX placing date of manufacture in 1898. This rifle will letter with the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody, Wyoming. The rifle has the most desirable caliber offered in the 1894 Model, 38/55wcf. The Barrel is 28 inch Octagon with Rapid taper or referred to as extra light weight by Winchester and as a "Pencil Barrel" by collectors a very rare item. The rifle has a Marbels Combination front sight and correct Lyman tang sight. Overall condition is fine and untouched. 80% original untouched factory rust blue finish toning to a very nice patina. The metal is smooth and void of any damage. The bore has considerable leading in the rifling and should clean to an 8 on a 1 to 10 scale with a good soaking and scrubbing. The action is tight, smooth and mechanically perfect. Wood to metal fit is perfect with 90% of the original factory varnish remaining. Very rare Antique 1894.
