Description:
Item: Parker Lifter Shotgun serial number 17316.

History: This Parker was owned by my grand father, John F Hazen, who was born 1878. John worked for the Bethlehem Steel Co, Bethlehem, PA and headed the Wire Rope Division during the Great Depression. I have no idea as to when he acquired the gun. I strongly suspect he used it only for hunting pheasants in the Bethlehem, PA area. Since his death the shotgun remained in the family and was never shot since then. I am selling the gun as there is no one the family who would like to have it.

Description: According to a Parker Research Letter, and I quote “the shotgun was ordered by Howell Dano & Co of Cincinnati, OH on 9/24/1879. It was a $125 Grade, Lifter Action Hammer Gun, 12 gauge. The stock configuration was a pistol grip length of pull 14 ¼”, Drop at heel, 2 ?”, Weight 8 pounds 1 ounce, Laminated steel barrels, length 28. The chokes patterned RH 160 pellets and LH 185 pellets of size 8 shot in a 24” circle at 45 yards”.

Current measurements: Right barrel bore .746, choke .025, left barrel bore .741 choke .035.
Right barrel .034 thinest spot in last foot, left barrel .037 thinest spot in last foot. Pitting normal for age. No bulges in barrels. Very good pattern on both barrels. Engraving very fine, all exposed parts are original and in fine condition, mechanically very tight.

The stock is in good condition for its age. There are shallow scratches on both sides of the stock. There is a repair on the bottom of the barrels which might have been correcting a separation issue. This very well could off been done by Parker; however, there is no mention of it in the Research Letter.   Please see the picture of this repair. A gunsmith examined the barrel and felt the gun was shootable. However, one has to make this own decision.
