GORGEOUS Antique WINCHESTER 1885 Low Wall Rifle
Beautifully Refinished & Chambered in .22 SHORT
Here we present an antique Winchester 1885 Low Wall Rifle, manufactured in 1892 in New Haven, Connecticut. Ironically, this was Winchester’s first single shot rifle, the company having been founded on its winning lever action repeater design. John Moses Browning, the famed gun designer who forever changed the firearms landscape, began his career with this rifle in the 19th Century before dominating the world scene in the 20th Century.
This example has been beautifully refinished with case coloring on the frame, lever, and butt plate. The #1 weight barrel is marked “MANUFACTURED BY THE/WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A.”. The rear of the barrel is marked “22 SHORT”. The butt stock shows a deep impact that gives this rifle a lot of character in addition to the mysterious markings of letters and numbers on each side. The barrel has been sleeved from .32 caliber to .22 Short, making this a really neat, useful, and functional rifle for targets or small game.
The overall condition is excellent. The blue on the barrel is nearly complete. The case colors on the frame and butt are bright. The markings are clear and legible. The stock is in great shape with tight fit to metal. The bore is very fine, bright and sharp. The action on this rifle is excellent.
