Description:
This is a spectacular example of a factory nickel finish Smith & Wesson Combat Masterpiece Model 15-3.  This 1968-manufactured Model 15-3 appears to be totally unfired since leaving the factory and has been fitted with a beautiful set of real Mother of Pearl grips.  It comes with an original factory box with the shipping paper, owner's manual, and S&W ammunition pamphlet inside.  There is also a small index card with the pistol's history thru the family that we purchased it from.  We are not sure whether the end-label on the box is original or has been added at a later time.  This is a beautiful revolver with 98 to 99% of the original factory bright nickel finish remaining.  One really has to look very closely to find anything worthy of the 1 to 2% deduction as there is no missing finish or wear/flaking, only some very tiny handling/box marks and a very faint drag line around the cylinder from working the action by hand.  The bore in the 4" barrel is absolutely pristine, with like-new sharp lands and grooves in the rifling and no pitting, erosion, or imperfections of any kind visible.  The forcing cone is perfect as well with no carbon or leading visible.  The cylinder bores are equally as pristine with no visible wear or imperfections.  The face of the cylinder is perfectly clean with no flash burns or carbon build-up, and does not show any evidence of having been cleaned or polished.  The factory matte-blue finish on the adjustable rear sight rates 99%, and the factory case colored finish on the trigger and hammer also rates 99% like-new.  As mentioned before, the genuine Mother of Pearl grips on this Smith are spectacular.  Both the left and right sides show beautiful depth and color and are free from any cracks, chips, or repairs.  These MOP grips are very nicely fit and slim in width, measuring 7/8ths of an inch across when mounted on the gun.  This nickel Combat Masterpiece is in perfect working order just like the day it left the factory.  The action is smooth and slick on this Smith & Wesson, and is perfectly "in time" whether it is worked fast or slow, or double-action or single-action.  The trigger is exceptional, breaking with a light pull with no slop or grit whatsoever.  It is obvious that this revolver is just as pristine on the inside as it is on the outside.  If you have been looking for an investment-quality "collector grade" Smith & Wesson for your collection, this 1968 vintage Combat Masterpiece would be an excellent choice.  It is not often that we encounter factory nickel Model 15's in any condition, much less as clean and complete as this one!
