Later part of 209 guns sent to the Railway Mail Service and issued to postal clerks to defend against robbers on Western and Southwestern routes. Later returned to Colt for refurbish and sent to the Commanding Officer, Manila, Philippine Islands in 1901. This revolver is listed by serial number on page 497 of The Study of the Colt Single Action Army Revolver by Kopec and Graham. Also in the same chapter is a lengthy description of these pistols used by the Postal Service as well as Railway Mail Service. The revolver is D.F.C. inspected. Action works perfectly. Barrel length 5 ½”. Grips are good and have dings on the bottom of the butt. There is a collection or museum number on the butt (needs more research on that). Additional information is found in Cavalry and Artillery Revolvers by Kopec and Fenn.
