Description:
FRENCH Mod 1899 BERTHIER Mousqueton EXPERIMENTAL BAYONET & SCABBARD Featured in P Kiesling book. Extremely Attractive; it appears to be the EXPERIMENTAL French Bayonet and scabbard documented in Paul Kiesling "Bayonets of the World" book page 180 top section. This Bayo was never officially issued and was used for trials in 1899. The Mousqueton model was replaced by the Mod 1899 Gendarmerie and the 1892 Artillery.
Excellent shape cruciform blade shortened from 520mm to 400mm with intact tip; has some grease, NO NICKS, straight with light aging spots, fits the scabbard nice and tight as it should. Cylindrical brass grips is great shape with just some minor tiny bruises, scratches-handling marks. Steel crosshilt with the muzzle ring and a flash checkered press-release button in good working order. Steel straight cylindrical rolled blue scabbard in beautiful shape with no major dents; just a few minor scattered tiny bruises, scratches-handling marks with little fading bluing mixed with grayish patina in some areas, the tip has been flattened and the loop is intact.
This Bayo would be a wonderful addition to your advance collection!
