This gun is in good original condition. Metal has light brown/ dark gray patina on metal. Wood is good. There is chipping around the lock that happened during the period of use. A chip is missing around the butt cap that happened more recently. Both the lock and the barrel have the “US” surcharge marking. The “US” marking indicates this is a gun stamped in 1780 or later. The French were great supporters of the United States during the American revolution and provided the Americans with over 100.000 French muskets and an unknown number of pistols. This gun comes out of the William Ahearn collection. Mr. Ahearn was the author of the book Muskets of the Revolution and the French and Indian Wars. This is a great historical piece and probably a once in a lifetime chance to own a US surcharge pistol! SOLD Antique: Yes |
