The .416 Taylor was created by Robert Chatfield-Taylor in the early 1970s. The cartridge idea was to replace the magnum length .416 Rigby with a cartridge that would fit into a standard-length bolt-action rifle such as the Mauser 98 and Winchester Model 70. It produces nearly the same performance as the legendary .416 Rigby but does it in a bolt rifle built on a standard length action. Norma makes ammo for this cartridge. The case is based on the .458 Winchester Magnum necked down to accept .416 caliber bullets or the .338 Win. Mag. necked up. It will move a 400-grain bullet at about 2,300 fps in a 24" barrel with a muzzle energy of about 4,850 ft. lbs. The .416 Taylor can drive a 340-grain bullet at about 2,500 fps.

Mr. Gene Simillion has it all together on both metal and wood. He is one of the best custom gun builders in all the U.S. and does not take a back seat to anyone. His style, workmanship, craftsmanship and full attention to detail is beyond reproach. The metal polishing outside and on the inside is done almost flawlessly and the stock inletting is as good as I have seen on 99% of all top-drawer custom rifles. Mr. Simillion practices his craft in Gunnison, Colorado. This is flat-out one nice rifle done by someone that knows everything about right from wrong.
