Description:
Introduced in 1909 and produced until 1912, the Argentine Model 1909 Mauser rifle is one of the finest bolt-action military rifles ever made.  The Model 1909 was manufactured under contract for the Argentine Military at D.W.M. in Berlin, Germany.  Chambered in the 7.65x53 cartridge (7.65 Argentine), the 1909 was built with the finest materials by the best gunsmiths that Germany had to offer.  The fit, finish, function, reliability, and accuracy of the rifle is second to none.  There were approximately 85,000 rifles manufactured during the production run, and these rifles are sought-after today by collectors and shooters alike.  The 1909 Argentine features a gloss-blued 29.13" inch barrel with an overall length of 49.2" inches, a polished receiver with a straight bolt handle, an inverted V front sight with an adjustable V-notch rear sight with graduations from 300 to 2000 meters, a flush 5-round internal box magazine with a hinged floorplate, and a beautiful Walnut pistol-grip stock set with an upper handguard.  This particular example is serial number L4174 and is an all-matching original rifle, including the cleaning rod and muzzle cover.  The receiver ring on this rifle has been scrubbed of the original Argentine crest, as was the law in Argentina when rifles were sold for export in the 1920's and 30's.  This rifle likely saw service with the Argentine Military and eventually put into storage.  At some point it was selected for sale and sent to an Argentine arsenal to be reworked for export sale as surplus.  When this rifle actually made it to the United States is unknown other than it had to be before 1968, as it is not import marked per U.S. law from 1968 onward.  It has a beautiful bright bore with no pitting, erosion, or imperfections visible.  The rifling still shows sharp lands and grooves throughout.  The gloss blued parts on this rifle are in excellent condition, only showing very minor handling marks and light wear.  The Walnut stock set is in excellent condition, with both the stock and handguard free from any cracks, chips, or repairs.  All of the original Argentine Military inspection proofs and cartouches are still crisp and clean, and all of the stock hardware and bands are in-place and in great shape.  The only negative we can find in regards to the hardware is that it appears to be missing a pin thru the bayonet lug extension, however the extension is tight to the rifle and will not come off without using some type of hammer and punch (the bayonet lug extension was a cost saving measure installed on the Model 1909 to allow the use of the Model 1891 bayonets already in inventory)  As mentioned before, all of the factory numbered parts are original stamped-matching including the stock, bolt, cleaning rod, muzzle cover, and triggerguard/floorplate.  All of the controls on this rifle are in perfect working order, and the action is both silky-smooth and precise, locking into battery perfectly.  The quality of this rifle really has to be felt and held to be truly appreciated.  This was one of the pinnacles of German military gunmaking in every aspect.  If you have been looking for an attractive and all-matching Argentine 1909 Mauser to both enjoy at the range and add to your collection as an investment, this rifle would be a superb choice.
