Description:
#3893 Winchester 1873 OBFMCB over-length 26” barrel length and standard trigger, 44WCF, and being a mid-to-late 3rd Variation in the 112XXX range (1884) with a smooth, tight action and a 6+/7 bore that looks like it will clean to be a solid 7 to 7-1/2 (on a scale of 10). This handsome rifle still has the unmarked brass cartridge caliber elevator and unmarked barrel breech that was common on these early 44-caliber Model 1973s and it also has the 2nd Model style short based rear barrel sight. The metal is VG+ with only light mottling of the patina, but nothing objectionable. The G/G+wood has medium bumps, scrapes, and bruises as well as some minor forearm “dishing” from being carried over a saddle. (…Oh, and a lightly scratched “K” on the left side of the buttstock wrist). The metal has a thin plum brownish-grey patina with some original blue-brown on the lower flats, and a few very light patina spots on the frame sides, but no mentionable rust or pitting. The edges and markings are all VG. A very nice ’73, at least VG+. $2395.
