Description:
#3882 Winchester 1876 OBFMCB, serial number 12XXX, thus being produced in 1881. Caliber 45/60 and having a 6+/7 bore; just overall light scale, dark grooves, and light pitting ….but no breaks in the rifling or any pockets of deep pitting. The mechanics are fine with the exception of the lever return spring and/or the lever cam itself being worn, because the lever flops down when the lever release thumb catch is opened. The exterior is really nice with sharp-edged barrel flats, fine metal overall with very good markings, and no pitting. The front sight is the “Rocky Mountain” replaceable blade type, the rear barrel sight is a generic low buckhorn, and the trigger is a standard trigger. The butt-stock and forearm are beautiful old replaced wood with no damage at all and both pieces fit the tangs perfectly. They are both matching 2X or 3X flame-grain walnut and look to have been on this rifle for a long time, If a person were to go out and buy flame-grain wood this nice, they would need to spend at LEAST $700+ for the set. It is really a VERY handsome and very impressively large rifle, and even though it does not have any original finish, the plum brown patina is smooth and fairly even. VG+ overall. $3125
