This revolver has matching numbers on the frame, cylinder, yoke, extractor, and barrel with the metal retaining 85-90% of the original blue that has flaked to underlying gray metal along the sides of the barrel near the muzzle, on the frame knuckle, and plum-brown freckling on the rear gripstrap. Some additional silvering is present on the raised edges and projections with some mild freckling at the grip-frame juncture on both sides, and a light turn-ring around the cylinder. British crossed pennants and Broad Arrow property stamps are present on the left side of the frame, along with a few small spots of pinprick pitting near the former, and on the latter. The hammer and trigger have about 70-80% of the original color case-hardening remaining with the balance turned plum-brown. Crisp Royal Flying Corps unit markings are present on the rear of the frame knuckle: “6. 16 / 8RS.RFC / 103" (June, 1916 / 8th Reserve Squadron. Royal Flying Corps / Gun #103); and a further Australian marking on the backstrap: “2MD / 20" (2nd Military District {New South Wales}). The checkered, diamond-center, S&W medallion grips are not numbered ton the interior, but are correct and have minor wear and surface blemishes, mainly around the butt, along with some minor flattening of the points on either panel. The lock-up is still tight and the mechanism functions flawlessly. This is a very nice 2nd Model .455 hand ejector, and has both extremely rare Royal Flying Corps, and Australian military markings. The revolver is in fine overall condition. FFL or C&R SOLD Manufacturer: S&W Model: Hand Ejector Serial Number: 47240 Caliber Info: .455 Gauge Info: .455 |
