This is a July, 1905 date stamped revolver that has matching numbers on the frame and barrel, with the metal retaining approximately 80-85% of the original brushed blue finish that has silvered and faded along the raised edges, projections, and bearing surfaces. Most of the finish loss occurs on the correct, but non-matching numbered cylinder, which has bright underlying metal present on the balance, and there is some mottled brown flaking on the topstrap, trigger guard, and gripstraps. The revolver has numerous Broad Arrow property stamps along with a deeply struck “U (Broad Arrow) / SAMR / 32" unit stamp on the backstrap just below the hammer (Union of South Africa property mark / South African Mounted Rifles). Further “C^G" marks are present on both gripstraps (the backstrap marking is crossed out) denoting possession by the Cape Government. The checkered hard rubber, Broad Arrow marked grips are in fine shape with some minor flattening of the points as well as a few minor scratches and handling blemishes, mainly towards the butt. The lock-up is still tight and the mechanism functions flawlessly. This is an excellent example of a desirable Webley model, with a great and desirable South African unit marking.
