This is a 1917-made revolver that has retained 80-85% of the original commercial blue finish with freckling and gray fading along the barrel (heaviest towards the muzzle). Further silvering and freckling is present on the frame and cylinder consistent with holster wear, while the gripstraps have turned dark plum-brown with silvering along the butt. The Colt hard rubber grips are in fine shape with only scattered handling marks and small blemishes, as well as some minor flattening of the points. The butt has the combined “MP" property stamp of the Royal North West Mounted Police, and a large issue number stamp has been applied to the backstrap: “RNWMP 1600". Additional “MP" markings are present on the butt near the lanyard swivel, and under the right grip panel. The lock-up is tight and the action functions flawlessly in both double and single action. This is one of the 1299 New Service revolvers purchased directly from Colt in 1919 (as part of the October 8 shipment of 200 guns), and would make a great addition to any collection.
