This is a very nice example of an original Model 1863 Military Breech Carbine in .52 caliber, SN 85523 of Civil War era manufacture. This features a later version of the Sharps action with an improved gas seal and vertical breech.  This carbine has a nice gray patina with traces of blue and case colors on the metal components, with significant case color in the loading throat. Bore has clear lands and grooves and very minimal oxidation. The wood stocks fit perfectly and have very minor bumps and dings. Many of these were later converted to .50-70 Government, so it is rare to see one in the original .52 caliber configuration. Has Federal Cartouch on left stock.
