Description:
This Colt M1911 A1 was manufactured in 1944 and remains in beautiful original condition.  It was shipped to England where it was to be issued to the Home Guard to protect against invasion threat.  After the threat of war subsided, the gun was marked by the British “NOTENGLISHMADE” and several crossed pennant and firing proofs were added to allow export from England.  The C/BP & C/BV are Birmingham Nitro Proof.  The X D5B is a 1953 Release Proof. These marks certify originality of the original finish as they are applied into the original finish. The condition is Outstanding. All parts are correct to the gun; the slide is correctly not numbered under the bolster.  The VP and Ord. Wheel are obviously stamped after finish.  There is the slightest burnishing of the high edges of the slide and frame. This pistol has most likely been test fired only judging from the lack of barrel bushing rub marks. The survivability of a 1944 un-issued gun is rare but one with British issue history, in this condition is hard to find.  The pistol was acquired from the family of Col. King, USA who was stationed in Pearl Harbor during the 12/7/41 attack and he was in Paris on VE day. He retired from the Reserves in 1980.  I don’t suggest that he carried this during the war, because of the condition, but he was in a position to get a nice .45 that had not been fooled with. The limited information on his service will be provided. This was the last of his possessions that the family disposed of, so don’t think there is a footlocker of other items waiting for you.  I tried already. If you are collecting High condition M1911’s this is the one for you. .45 ACP Cal. with a 5 ½” Barrel.  Serial Number 1,741,260,  FFL Required.
