Evans and sold by J.P. Lower in Philadelphia about 1855-60. This scarce agent marked deringer is patterned very closely to Henry Deringer's pistols of the period, is much better quality than Deringers work. It is 6-1/2 inches overall diagonally, with a 2 inch barrel and a 5/8 inch breech. See page 82 of "The Deringer in America" by Wilson and Eberhart, Mobray, 1985. The six groove rifled barrel measures 42 caliber. In overall good condition with original varnish finish, and deep checkering. The wood has high percent original varnish, minor handling marks, and the barrel has minor staining. Lock, hammer, and breech have original blue. The lock functions perfectly.
