The SO16 starts with a specially-engineered 16.25" Parkerized carbon steel barrel that is mated to the gas system with a proprietary muzzle brake. The muzzle brake reduces felt recoil and keeps muzzle rise so flat that follow-up shots have never been so easy. Its enlarged ghost ring aperture rear sight and XS Tritium Insert in the front sight give you the quick target acquisition capability you want and need under any conditions. If your mission calls for optics, the SO16 features Springfield Armory's forward scout-style Picatinny mount.

Top notch Springfield rifle This is my second M1A (1st is a Scout Squad). Perfect fit and function fired 60 rounds first time out with zero issues. Rifle arrived well packed in a Springfield embroidered soft case (bought my Scout Squad about three years ago and it did not come with the case)! Nice balance on the 16 easy to sight in. Get it now! Was this review, Peter LOVE THIS RIFLE!! M1As are my new favorite gun. This guy packs a punch and is tons of fun to shoot. There are plenty of upgrades available and you can switch out the stock in seconds which makes dressing it up just as fun as an AR15 (except with wood instead of black plastic). Yes (3) No (0) Had to get finally Sold the bolt action 308 so I needed a new rifle. Saw the M1A SOfor sale couldn't resist any longer. Have put a few hundred rounds through it so far flawlessly. Fun to shoot recoil is easy to manage due to weight of the rifle. Out to a 100 yards it is Ok with the sights. At 200 the sights are like pigs. The ghost ring and the fat front sight kinda suck. Still don't understand why Springfield Armory doesn't have replacement sight for the SO Standard sights would be ok if you could use them but they are not compatible according to Springfield Armory. The front sight is almost like holding your thumb out and sighting something in. But it is a good reliable rifle in the 308/7.62.
