We are offering a Winchester 1886 Deluxe Lightweight in .45-70, manufactured in 1901 and shipped from the warehouse in 1902. Serial number 125577.
As evidenced by the factory letter, the rifle originally had a 22” round barrel. It now sports a 26” half round/half octagon barrel. Discussion with the Cody Museum indicates that the barrel was NOT replaced at Winchester, although the leter indicate it was returned for repair in 1903. We would also call your attention to the hole in the front sight (Image 8) and the two additional holes on the left side of the receiver (image 14).
