RARE Antique SIMEON NORTH Model 1833 HALL Carbine
Breech Loading Carbine with Sliding Bayonet
Here we present an antique Simeon North U.S. Contract Model 1833 Hall Breech Loading percussion carbine with a sliding bayonet made in 1838 in Middleton, Connecticut. The Model 1833 is historically significant as the first percussion firearm adopted by the U.S. Government and also the first U.S. martial arm to employ an under-barrel bayonet that slides into the ramrod channel. 1,028 were manufactured in .58 caliber in 1834, and 6,135 were manufactured in .52 caliber in 1836-1839. These were issued to the 2nd US Dragoons and there were even 100 ordered by the state of Alabama for a special Mobile city militia unit. The Model 1833 was primarily used in conflicts with Native Americans in the Arkansas Territory and Florida, in the Mexican-American War, and they remained in use during the Civil War.
The overall condition is fair to good. The iron parts show weathering and extensive use. The markings are effaced. The walnut stock likewise shows its age and use. The bore is smooth and dusty. The action is excellent.
