Description:
WW2 MAUSER KARABINER DATED 1920 GEW 98 S28 K98B STYLE 8MM MILITARY PRE-WW2 GEWEHR RIFLE. Three digit serial number with "b" suffix and all matching so probably the 10,589th rifle made in that series. These blank receivers (although stamped "1920" on top ring) are considered 98b style(originals by Simson) transition post WW1-preWW2 with "S28" stamps on various parts including under barrel. Stock also numbered to gun under wood. These rifles were produced using leftover Gew98 parts so has Imperial German markings but no KAR98 or Gew98 markings on receiver. Stock matching with various crown over "O" and Weimar republic eagles as well as Nazi eagle over "Hr1"(reworked in Hanover is what that stamp means). Stock unsanded so markings crisp as are all metal parts and barrel so no refinish. Supposedly 30,000 produced. NO import marks. Lower stock forend with duffle-cut for GI bringback purposes. Handguard above glued lengthwise with what appears as same glue to reattach forend for dufflecut repair(properly done so no shortening of wood. Rare S28 marked transition 1920 marked rifle probably reworked about 1927-28. Probably made by Berlin-Karlsruher Industrie-Werk, A.G. (Formerly DWM).
