Description:

Colt 1877 “Lightning” .38 Caliber Revolver C&R

Double Action Revolver Made in 1903

Here we present a Colt 1877 Lightning Double Action Revolver, made in 1903 in Hartford, Connecticut. The Model 1877 was Colt’s first venture into double action revolvers. It was quite successful, selling 166,849 from 1877 through 1909, primarily in .38 and .41 calibers. Nonetheless, there was some hesitation to move away from the single action mechanism, which had so proven itself. Famous adopters of the Lightning were William “Billy the Kid” Bonney and John Wesley Hardin, two legendary names of the American West.

The overall condition is fine. The original blue finish is 80%. Case colors are visible and even vibrant in areas. The markings are clear and legible. Numbers match. The trademarked hard rubber grips are in great shape. The bore is clear and bright with strong rifling. The action on this revolver is excellent.
