Description:
SINGLE ACTION ARMY .45 COLT CALIBER U. S. ARTILLERY MODEL WITH ALL MATCHING NUMBERS EXCEPT ON THE BARREL (TYPE II), #48XXX, MADE 1878.  Almost all of the Artillery SAA revolvers found today have all mixed numbers making the Type II quite scarce and desirable. This example has fine markings along with the H.N. (Henry Nettleton) inspector stamp by the serial number on the frame, trigger guard, cylinder and high up on the back strap behind the hammer. Under the correct bullseye head ejector housing the barrel is numbered 7XXX with fine blue in a perfect outline of the ejector housing where it is protected. The one line barrel address is sharp and clear and the three line frame patent dates and U.S. marking are also fine. The front sight is s nickel silver blade and is the only part of this revolver that may be a replacement as these are usually blue steel. Correct hammer, tight action, excellent bore is only a little dark but not pitted and shows excellent rifling. The one piece walnut grips show wear with some very small worn-in chips at the lower corners. There is some good blue along the barrel top and in the protected areas around the ejector housing along with some aged blue in the cylinder flutes. The balance of the revolver is an uncleaned gray/brown. Most of these saw heavy service in the military and then as surplus on the Western Frontier. This is a nice example with an attractive appearance and quite scarce with  all visible numbers matching.
