Description:
SOLD.....This is a fantastic all Original example Bayo with a BEAUTIFUL CRISP DETAILED CREST and markings with matching number scabbard. No pitting. The blade is in excellent condition, PERFECT EDGE, UNSHARPENED with NO Nicks; bright and shiny, tip is intact, straight, single-edged, and fullered on both sides; it has the normal small faint aging spot where the frog scabbard stud sets, has some grease left over and the usual scratches/handling marks. Crisp detailed markings on the ricasso showing the Argentine Coat of Arms and the KWS German marker. The other usual markings are all there intact and crisp. Handle is in great shape with the rivets tight in place ; the release button is in good working condition. Handle and cross hilt with usual handling marks/scratches. Pommel marked oval "RA" for Republica Argentina exhibiting a T-mortise slot mount. Scabbard is made of sheet-rolled steel, it has a ball finial; it is smooth with NO dents, NO nicks, NO pitting; with matching number, bluing finish fading thinning, worn mixed with even pleasing patina; it has more bluing left around the frog stud where the frog sets with usual scratches/handling marks; it has the two throat rivets in place and fits the bayo nice and tight as it should. Extremely well made German craftsmanship.
NOTE TO THE COLLECTORS: Most of the 1909 Bayonets and rifles survived the grounding of the crest and are very easy to find them with the Coat of arms intact but that is not the case with the 1891 Bayonets and infantry rifles. The aluminum grip scales were part of an effort to lighten the bayonet. The grip metal is an alloy of aluminum, with 6 percent copper. While the Mauser rifles were manufactured by Ludwig Loewe & Co, it was decided that the bayonet would be supplied elsewhere. After much negotiation Argentina, under the advice of Colonel Riccheri, signed with Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Co.
