Original CASED Antique SMITH & WESSON .32 S&W
Manufactured Circa 1878 Without a Strain Screw!
Here we present an antique Smith & Wesson Model Number 1-1/2 .32 S&W Second Issue Revolver in the Original Wooden Case, made circa 1878 in Springfield, Massachusetts. This revolver has an early 3-digit serial number and was one of Smith & Wesson’s first top break, auto-ejected revolvers. This is one of those few very early variants that did not include the strain screw in the front grip strap of the frame. This revolver was an improvement over the previous generated in that the top break design was more robust and ejection made it unnecessary to remove the cylinder to remove the empties individually as one was required to do with the previous model. Still in single action only, this little revolver was still very simple to operate and held 5 rounds of .32 S&W, a favorite for armed civilians who didn’t want to carry a Colt .38, .44, or .45 on their hip every day. This one comes in its original factory wooden box, which is fitted and bears the instructions for operation on the inside of the lid. This is a rare find in this condition and with the box.
The overall condition is very fine. 99% of the original nickel finish is present. The case colors remain vibrant. The blue on the top latch is virtually complete. The markings are clear. The numbers match. The bore is in great shape with sharp rifling. The action is excellent, strong and crisp. The case remains in near fine condition. This is a true rarity for Smith & Wesson collectors.
