Very Fine & Early with 3-Digit Serial!
Here we present an antique Smith & Wesson .38 S&W Single Action Revolver, made circa 1877 in Springfield, Massachusetts. This iteration was the successor of the “Baby Russian” revolver. These were manufactured from 1877 through 1891. While many Colt Single Action Army Revolvers and the like were used during this period, most people would have preferred something a bit smaller, like this for their everyday protection needs. Operation is simple with a single action only mechanism, and five rounds of .38 S&W would have been sufficient firepower for most during that time period. This revolver would have fit nicely in a small holster under a jacket or vest and it would have been equally at home in a pocket.
The overall condition is very fine. The original nickel finish is 99%. The case colors are vibrant on the hammer. The markings are clear. The numbers match. The trademarked hard rubber grips are in fine shape. The bore is in very good condition with sharp rifling. The action is excellent, strong and crisp. Whether you want a vintage Smith & Wesson revolver or want to have a crisp example of an antique gun, this is it!
