About Us: Joe Salter has been in the Antique and Collector Weapons business for 60 years as both a collector and dealer. Description:
NSN, 12 bore, 28" barrels with excellent, bright bores. This is a handsome gun that has strong damascus patterning along the barrels with some mild fading at the muzzle and towards the breech. The barrels have legible “GEO. WILSON PETER LANE, YORK" maker markings on the rib towards the breech, and tight British scrollwork engraving on the barrel tang, and on the “GEO. WILSON" marked lock plates. The rib itself has begun to delaminate at the breech. Both locks are tight and function flawlessly with refilled platinum blow-outs on both sides. The hammers are both original, however the head of the left side hammer is has been replaced and has a slightly bluer patina than the rest of the metal. The English walnut stock has been nicely refinished with sharp checkering, and several small handling marks scattered about. The stock is fastened by a single wedge with plain oval escutcheons, as well as an engraved trigger guard with urn finial, and scrollwork vignette along the exterior of the bow. The buttplate has an overall dark gray patina with faded engraving along the top tang. The gun center section of the buttstock is a separate piece of highly figured wood that has a distinct, “palm frond" appearance on both sides. The section was installed for its decorative effect, and appears to be original. The seam at the nose of the piece has detached slightly on the left side. The gun comes with the original brass-tipped mahogany ramrod held by two plain cylindrical thimbles and a decorated German silver tail-pipe with stylized finial. The gun is housed in a wooden Charles Lancaster labeled case with original green baize lining and toned, but intact original paper maker's label. The interior has nine compartments with some damage along a few of the side walls, and three compartment lids. The gun also comes with the following period accessories: powder flask, Hawksley powder flask with patent top, and a leather game carrier. The gun was purchased from Arthur Turner Ltd. of Sheffield, UK in April of 1953, and the original sales receipt is included. This is a beautiful percussion shotgun that would be worthy of a high grade restoration. Antique
