Description:
Here we have a unique piece of Canadian Military. This item consists of a Canadian issue snider, bayonet, scabbard, helmet and helmet tin all marked to the 30th Wellington Battalion of Rifles (Canadian Militia) ironically this item was sourced out of the State of California. In addition we have some information relating to prior ownership. The snider is a MKII* showing a bright lock, rear sight and actin block. Unfortunately the barrel was cleaned by a prior owner and is a dull grey. DC marked stock, both the butt tang and rod are marked 30 #491. The bayonet is marked 30 #515 and the scabbard 30 #823. The 30th is one of the Canadian Units that had involvement with the Fenian intrusions. The helmet is a home service pattern which is complete and original and mounted with a silver 30th Battalion/Canada militia badge, the same pattern is shown on page 77 of the book "Fuss & Dashion, 200 years of Canadian Military Headdress" by our late friend Clive M. Law. These helmets were introduced into Canadian service in 1879. This piece is complete with strap. The original helmet can show a makers label Olaw& Cop Army, police and railway clothiers, London . This unit originally came from Stratford Ont. For over 70 years it was owned by a William Ryerson owner of the Ryerson Leather Company who supplied leather equipment to the Canadian Military. The pieces were kept at the company facility in Stratford until the business closed in the late 1950's. A unique grouping of Canadian Militaria. Antique
