Description:
Serial #896, 8.15 x 46R, 32" octagon barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a splendid, German-made rifle that retains 97-98% of the original blue finish on the barrel with only some trace hints of silvering along a few of the high edges, and some thin streaks of gray near the breech. The bright metal frame has extensive floral scroll engraving with a large circular vignette on the right side framing a target hat-wearing beer girl. The left has a vignette depicting a Renaissance marksman quaffing a tankard of beer. The ornate lever has the same bright gray patina. A very small and unobtrusive import mark is present on the underside of the barrel just ahead of the forend tip. The forend is wedge-fastened, and the European walnut has a few minor handling marks along its surface. The buttstock is typically complex with raised, concave cheek-piece, and hooked butt. The wood is replaced, shaped and finished by the master craftsmen of the Albl family, and features some fine checkering, as well as a few small handling marks, and a small chip missing from the left side of the wrist where the wood meets the frame. The rifle retains the removable front sight, and rear tang sight with wide aperture disk. According to the previous owner's notes (included with the rifle) it was purchased by him in 1998 from Josef Albl, current patriarch of the Albl family of woodcarvers in Oberammergau, Bavaria. Herr Albl was one of the top ranked Traditionelwaffen competitors at the time, and also had an impressive collection of schutzen rifles. In the notes it is mentioned that Albl preferred a System Buchel rifle in competition. An Albl product catalog with a portrait of Josef in full Bavarian shooting attire is also included. This is a fantastic rifle that has one of the best schutzen actions available, and would make a great addition to any collection. FFL or C&R
