This is the type of pistol that would have been worn by a French officer during the American Revolutionary War. Records of the Labordes and their gunmaking go back to at least the 1730s in Bordeaux. Stockel puts Labordes “Le Jeune” or “The Younger” in Paris from at least 1745-1760. This was a period marked by the global Seven Years’ War with the French and their allies fighting the British and their allies. This conflict extended to North America in the form of the French & Indian War. This conflict was a contributing factor to France’s willingness to supply arms and eventually soldiers to the rebel cause against Britain during the American Revolutionary War. This pistol would have been purchased privately by an officer and is a good size for the belt. The bore is .58 caliber. The lock is engraved and marked “Laborde a Paris”. There is also engraving on the pommel and trigger guard. The stock is nicely carved and figured. The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces have a gray-brown patina. The markings are clear. The engravings are sharp. The stock is in great shape, smooth and solid with the handling marks you would expect from a 260-year-old belt pistol. The bore is smooth and dark. The action is excellent, strong and crisp. Here is a fabulous & ornate French flintlock pistol from the mid-18th Century! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 9 inches. Caliber: .58 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
