Description:
***   SOLD   ***   Handsome Joseph Lang & Son 12 bore Sidelock Ejector No. 8299 made in 1897 by this storied London gunmaker as No. 2 of a pair. Nicely done and intricate border engraving but with all the features of a top grade gun including disc set strikers, ejectors, single trigger, and auto safety, There is residual case coloring on the action and forearm. Gun weighs 7lb even.   ***   The 30” nitro steel barrels with top extension are chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells and were recently professionally re-blacked. They are topped by a solid concave game style rib on which is inscribed “Joseph Lang & Son. 10. Pall Mall. London.”. The right barrel is bored 0.731 with a constriction of 0.001 for Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.027. The left barrel is bored 0.733 with a constriction of 0.041 for Full choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.022. Cylinder and Full was a fairly typical choking for the day and is very effective for today’s upland gunning. Naturally, the choke on the left barrel could be easily opened up by a gunsmith.   ***   The straight hand stock and splinter forearm are made of straight figured but contrasting European walnut. The buttstock was professionally re-stocked sometime in the recent past. Gold initial plate engraved with the initials "EMC".Checkering is crisp on the stock but shows wear on the original forearm. Stock dimensions are 15” over a checkered butt by 1-3/8” by 2-1/8”. Cast off for the right hand shooter.   ***   This is a great vintage double from a top tier London maker still well in proof and tight on face. Gun handles nicely and would be great for doves, pheasants, grouse and quail. With its new stock and modern shooting dimensions it makes a great gun for game and clays.  ***   Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period and will only accept returns at buyer’s expense if the gun is not as described in the listing.
