Antique U.S. Model 1840 ARTILLERY Saber
Civil War Era Saber
Here we present an antique U.S. Model of 1840 Artillery Saber, made circa 1840-1860. The Model 1840 features a beautifully curved blade with a single knucklebow instead of a basket hilt. The grip is wrapped in leather and braided wire. Faint Ames address on the left side of the ricasso. The right side of the blade and the drag of the scabbard are marked “10B”, almost certainly for 10th Regiment, Company B. This saber would have been used in the Mexican-American War, the Indian Wars, and the American Civil War on either side.
Overall condition is very good. Grip wrap remains complete and tight. The blade is semi-bright. Here is a true rough and ready war-horse for your collection!
