Description:
Manufactured from 1816 until 1844, the U.S. Military Springfield Model 1816 flintlock musket came with a 42" inch barrel in .69 caliber.  These U.S. military arms were all originally flintlocks, but most were later converted to percussion muskets in order to modernize them without having to adopt an entirely new weapon.  They remained in U.S. service into the American Civil War, with some reportedly used in the First Battle of Bull Run.  This particular example is dated 1833, and was one of the muskets converted to percussion in military service and later converted back to flintlock in civilian hands.  The lock on this Model 1816 is in perfect working order and the metal all shows a nice aged brown-gray patina.  The original American Eagle stamp, the "U.S." stamp, and the "Springfield 1833" stamp on the lockplate are all still intact and visible.  The exterior of the barrel has been cleaned at some point and is a nice even silver-gray, showing lots of small handling marks and trace pitting in places consistent with the rest of the musket.  The original American Walnut stock is sound and shows some small dings, dents, and scratches scattered about that you would expect to see on a military weapon of this age.  The wood is a pleasing light brown from the butt to the top barrel band and shows a carved "A" on the right side of the buttstock.  Remarkably despite it's age and service life, the original U.S. Military inspection cartouche is still quite visible on the left side of the stock opposite the lockplate.  The ramrod and all of the original stock hardware is intact and in good condition, including the barrel bands, sling swivels, and buttplate.  This is a very nice representative example of the U.S. Military's early Springfield flintlock musket that served American interests for many years.  If you have been looking for an affordable but nice U.S. Military flintlock musket for your collection this 1833 example would be an excellent choice.  If the new owner is interested we do have an original socket bayonet with the original leather scabbard available for $150.00.  This is an antique weapon and can be shipped directly to the purchaser.
