Description:
This would be a good hunting rifle. An original, Model 70 XTR. This was the predecessor to the Model 70 XTR Featherweight that was introduced in 1981 after USRA took over Winchester. The XTR shown here was produced in 1979. It is chambered for the very popular .243 Winchester. The scope is a Redfield Lo-Pro 2-7x. The bluing is in excellent shape. The rifle’s bore is in excellent condition and does not appear to have had many rounds fired through it. The action is glass smooth in operation, something you can’t find in a bolt rifle without spending a lot a money. The stock has some minor scrapes on the right side but is otherwise fine. If you are a fan of the Model 70 or are looking for a good deer rifle, the XTR in .243 Winchester would be an excellent choice. The Model 70 is considered by many gun enthusiasts to be one of the finest bolt action rifles ever made. I personally own a pre-64 Model 70 in 300 H&H and can without doubt state that it is one of the finest rifles I have ever owned. The Model 70 has been used for everything from hunting to target shooting and has even seen military service as a sniper rifle alongside famous rifles such as the Springfield 1903A4, Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk I(T), Mosin-Nagant M1891/30 Sniper, and Mauser Model 98k Sniper. The .243 Winchester has been proven to be a very versatile cartridge over the years thanks to a wide a variety of bullet weights and light recoil. It can used for hunting both large varmints and deer.
