We are offering a Schilling (”Valentin Christian Schilling”) Mauser 98 rifle in .30-06, one of many pieces from the private collection of firearms and outdoors retailer/distributor Lew Horton. This is one of two Mauser-action bolt rifles in the collection, both of which belonged to Mr. Horton’s father (no other info or provenance is known).
The 25” barrel is marked “V. CHR. Schilling, Shul – Germany” on the top. The left side “Gusstahl” is stamped and on the right side “Krupp Essen”. One third of the barrel is octagon with a sold rib going to the ramped front sight. It shows some bluing wear on sides of the muzzle end and small marks on the right side. On the rear is a Lyman peep sight.
This rifle is very well balanced and weighs 8 pounds. It has a Monte Carlo stock, Schnabel forend, and set triggers. It come with the picture soft-case.
