C. 1800 AMERICAN EAGLE Pommel Saber by KELLER
With Ebony Handle & Ornate Blade
Here we present an antique American Eagle Saber, manufactured circa 1800. This style of sword was popularized during the American Revolutionary War and was one of the signature weapons of the young United States through the War of 1812 and into the 1830s. In addition to the ornate cast pommel, this sword features a carved ebony handle and an engraved blade with remnants of gold inside. This blade would almost certainly have also been blued as was the aesthetic of the period. The ricasso is signed by the maker “C. v. Keller” or Christof von Keller of Solingen, Germany.
The overall condition is good. The brass hilt is dark with age. The ebony handle shows a chip but remains solid and in good condition. The blade has a gray patina. Markings are legible. Here is a very nice sword such as an officer would have purchased upon receiving his commission.
